Billy is a young aspiring photographer from Iowa who arrives fresh-faced in New York on a trip to follow in the footsteps of Patti Smith and Robert Mapplethorpe in an attempt to capture their bohemian spirit. On his final night while on the hunt for a hook-up, he stumbles into the last evening of an artists’ salon held at a Brooklyn gay bar on its last legs. Run by a pair of artists, Jo & Joey (who are just, "a coupla of Joes)”, Billy finds himself taken in by their openness, skepticism, and . . . something else. What follows is an extended night full of performances, rooftop connections, and revelations from the past that bring a whirlwind of change for everyone involved. Metropolitan is a modern musical that looks at the relationships in our lives that haunt and inspire while celebrating the magic that is New York City.
We are so proud to announce that Metropolitan, a new musical, by Mikey Rosenbaum & Tom Picasso will be part of the FRESH FRUIT FESTIVAL, with performances on July 9th, 11th, & 14th.
We hope you'll be able to join us.
Back on May 8th, 2018, this musical was conceived as a seven-minute one-act in the Amios’ Musical Shotz: One Night Only. It starred Dillon Heape, Leigh Williams, & Michael Fulvio (pictured left)
Subsequently, FIG Productions picked up the project and had a reading of the First Act in our Seedling Series last fall. It was the most widely attending single-evening event in our history. The musical expanded from seven minutes to fifty minutes with many new songs and plot twists. (pictured below)

Leigh Williams and Michael Fulvio repeated their roles as JO & JOEY, but Dillon was touring in Japan, so Jacob William Patorti stepped in to play BILLY. At the piano, you can see Mikey Rosenbaum the composer and reading stage directions is Tom Picasso, the playwright.
Following that success, we applied to The Fresh Fruit Festival to present a new ninety-minute version of METROPOLITAN. And we’re pleased to announce that we will have three performances at The Wild Project on July 9th, 11th, & 14th. Alas, Michael Fulvio moved to Los Angeles, so we recast the role with the very talented Ryan Brennan as JOEY. Leigh continues in the role of JO, and amazingly, Dillon returns (!) to take up the dual roles of BILLY and ANDREW (yes, two roles mysterious!! You gotta see this show !!)

FIG Productions is very excited about this production. We've assembled a wonderful company. Emily Jeanne Brown has come back to direct (she's AMAZING !!!) and the very talented David Paarlberg (from The Hallows) will be our musical director.
